Movies Based On Books
Sometimes people really irritate me. It’s always the same complaint. “I loved the book but the movie was terrible because they didn’t follow the book exactly!". For crying out loud. The movie is NEVER EVER going to be the same as the book! For that matter, you really wouldn’t want it to be either.
Take “Lord of the Rings". Most people will agree that this was a brilliant book, and most people will agree that the movie was pretty good too. This movie would truly suck if it followed the book exactly. Each episode of the movie would be at least twelve hours long. You would have to sit there waiting for things to happen. Let’s face it, Tolkien was a little bit long winded. After all, how long was it from Bilbo’s eleventy first birthday until Frodo actually left the Shire? We’re talking years, baby. In the movie, the story kept moving. This is a good thing for your bum. As it was the movie was quite a bit longer than movies typically are anyway. The majority of the story was still able to be conveyed in a very entertaining way. (Yes, I know that the entire Tom Bombadil part was removed, but how relevant was it to the story anyways? It would have added at least fifteen minutes to the movie, if not more.)
I guess what I am trying to say is: Enjoy the movie for what it is. The people who made it put a lot of effort into it, so appreciate that when you watch it. Complain about the movie if it sucked as a movie, not if it wasn’t exactly to the letter of the book.
